Australia Day

Australia Day is the official national holiday of Australia celebrated annually on January 26. The date commemorates the arrival of the first fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland. It is at present an official public holiday in every state and territory of Australia celebrated along with community festivals, concerts and citizenship ceremonies.

But Australia Day is more than just a public holiday. It brings families and friends, Australians and the like together to celebrate the Aussie way as there are over 5,000 events that celebrate everything that’s amazing being Australian be it in the city, on the coast or in a regional area.

The Australia Day celebrations in Sydney are relevant of Australia’s ancient and largest city with events and fun activities spread far and wide. The Royal Botanic Gardens, sacred land of the indigenous Gadigal people, marks the official start of Australia Day activities in the city where the Woggan ma-gule Morning Ceremony will be performed.

There will be a long list of events all day long at the Park. There are many food stalls located around Hyde Park where you can grab a bite to eat or just relax on its lush green grass.

And for some, Australia Day means taking the boat up for a day in Sydney Harbour where they can see tall ships, tugs, ferries, barges and vessels and so stuff for the thousands of spectators on the water’s edge.
Australia Day is a great day to do everything as you please, celebrating that Aussie spirit!
